Exterior Enhancements | Lighten up a Little

Though most showings will take place during the day, exterior lighting can still play a role in your home’s curb appeal. It can add a touch of elegance, match the overall theme of your home and (probably most importantly) a sense of security. After all, nobody likes coming home in the dark!

Outdoor lighting should go beyond the normal lamp posts and wall-mounted sconces to make your landscaping pop, but even a simple switch of fixtures can add a lot of appeal at first glance.

Current lighting trends include vintage farmhouse fixtures and lamps with an industrial flare.

If you don’t have wall fixtures, there are lots of fun chandelier options as well. They go along with the same trends, but there are funky options like the one below, too. Who wouldn’t remember walking that front door? You only get one first impression — so make it a good one!

A 2012 survey by the National Association of Home Builders found that 90 percent of homebuyers rated exterior lighting as an “essential” or “desirable” feature, so it’s worth a little upgrade. If new fixtures aren’t in the budget right now, a quick coat of paint goes a long way! Check out this DIY light fixture update and you’ll notice the immediate difference it made on the home.
